I am on a journey to see how God will use me in this messy thing called the "Church." While on that journey I have just recently moved to a new role as a Sr. Pastor. Not real sure what that means really, but God is moving and I will follow the wave as it goes.

No more Bibles in Church

feature photo

Have you noticed?  Over the last couple of years we have seen a big decline in the number of people who are bringing their Bibles to church. At first glance one would wonder if people are listening or do they even care about what you are teaching.  No more hearing the Bible pages turn when the preacher asks for you to follow him to a particular verse.

This past weekend I (the teacher) had the chance to participate in worship as our Children’s minister taught.  The one thing I noticed is that in the little section I was seated in of the twenty people I could see at least 8 of them were using their phones, ipods, nooks or some other device to follow along.  What appears to be a lack of Bibles coming into the church may well just be a change in the way people consume information and use technology.

My question:  How do we as leaders harness this usage so that our people get the best experience?  What are you doing at your church?  How many of you use YouVersion Live and what do you think of it?

P.S.  I recently caught one of our members using facetime so that her husband could see the message at home with a sick kid.

    Chris,

You are exactly correct, we now have more Bibles in our service because of technology.  It is an interesting culture shift as we move from paper to technology.  Just not sure I can do that just yet as I like to preach from the physical paper Bible.  Maybe I am old school on this.
