I am on a journey to see how God will use me in this messy thing called the "Church." While on that journey I have just recently moved to a new role as a Sr. Pastor. Not real sure what that means really, but God is moving and I will follow the wave as it goes.

To text or not to text?

Recently the St. Louis Post Dispatch did an article on whether or not we should have texting in our church services (click here for the article).  I am amazed at the response people gave to this idea of texting.  In many of our churches we have realized that people are texting all the time and that it has become a new way of communicating everything to our students, to leaders and just about everyone else.  Churches are always looking for ways to be creative and to encourage participation in worship services.  Leonard Sweet practically predicted this 8 years ago with the writing of Post Modern Pilgrim.  As he talks about kissing your culutre and being aware of what is happening and using it to the benefit of communicating the Gospel.

Why then is this so hard for people to accept or get on board with?  We know that in most sermons people are listening and trying to understand and often have great questions come up as they are sitting there.  Often those questions go unasked to anyone who could help them find the answer.  Today, we want to be able to help answer some of those questions in our teaching time or even later in the week through a blog that our congregation knows to look at. I see only benefits from us using technology in this manner and trying to connect our people.

What are your thoughts?  Have you used texting in your ministry?
