Book Review – Jesus Manifesto
Jesus Manifesto – Restoring the Supremacy and Sovereignty of Jesus Christ
by Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola
In this book Leonard Sweet teams up with Frank Viola to write what I would call the only must read book of the year. I have always enjoyed the thoughts that Leonard Sweet gets out there for us to read and in Jesus Manifesto he has gone to a whole new level.
For many of us this book is a wake up call. Distracted by all the leadership ideas that we are faced with everyday, the constant in flow of tweets, the connections that we have to people outside of ourselves. Sweet and Viola have called us back to the heart of why we are involved in ministry. The books introduction starts off with that one simple question that Jesus posed to Peter just before His betrayal, Who Do You Say I Am?
This is a question that kept coming up in my mind as I was reading this book, who do I say Jesus is?
“Without Him, all things lose their value.”
“Seek Christ, embrace Christ, know Christ, and you will have touched Him who is life.”
Think about these two simple quotes from the book. The entail the whole value and premise for a life with Christ. In this book you will find yourself examining who you say Christ is. Not only with your words but with your actions. What are you preaching? How does the message and greatness of Christ get communicated to those around you? There are so many great quotes in this book that I feel I can only get you ready to read this book. If you are in a love relationship with Jesus you must read this book. Let me leave you with one final quote as you determine when you are going to go out and buy this book.
“Jesus Himself said that when He is lifted up, He will draw all people to Himself. But because we don’t trust Jesus to do what He says he will do, or believe that He is who He says He is, or have not caught glimpse of His infinite glory, we sit down at drawing boards and draw up programs and methods and draft strategies that we hope might bring people to Christ. But Jesus could not have been clearer: the only begotten Son of God is the draw. Our mission is simply to life Him up in a context that our culture can understand and appreciate. Whenever this happens, the rest will take care of itself.”
Thanks to Thomas Nelson and to the folks at www.booksneeze.com for giving me the opportunity to read and review Jesus Manifesto: Restoring the Supremacy and Sovereignty of Jesus Christ.
