I am on a journey to see how God will use me in this messy thing called the "Church." While on that journey I have just recently moved to a new role as a Sr. Pastor. Not real sure what that means really, but God is moving and I will follow the wave as it goes.

Speed of the Team

“The Speed of the Leader Determines the Speed of the Team.”

This is the leadership thought that I have had running through my head this week.  As I have recently moved to a new position as “Senior Minister” I am revisiting some of these truths that I have not looked at in a long time.  This particular thought has me wondering  what speed am I operating at with my team.

  1. Too fast – as a new guy there are a lot of things that I am looking at and wanting to fix as quickly as I can.  It may be simple things like getting some paint on the walls or more difficult things like changing our chick-in process.  The challenge that I am facing is how soon can we get it done and am I creating false expectations.
  2. Too slow – if we move to slow then we there will not be a sense that things are changing.  The longer that we wait to start making changes then the harder those changes will become.  As leaders we want everyone to come alongside with us and move in the direction that is being given by the leader.  Sometimes that may not happen.

As I was sharing my thought about this with someone else they offered an interesting thought.  One that I want to share with you and get some feed back on.  Here we go:

  • If the Speed of the Leader Determines the Speed of the Team what do you do when you get a flat tire?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts…

I once was asked about if you needed someone to help you change a tire at 2:00 in the morning who would you call? Call on the ones you know love and support you! I believe you can vision cast alone but you need a team to lead! You have the team, lets lead the Kingdom that God has entrusted us with! God Bless You and the future of VMCC.
  • You become thankful for a good pit crew, a spare tire in the trunk, and the jack that you remembered to put back under said spare tire the last time you used it.
