I am on a journey to see how God will use me in this messy thing called the "Church." While on that journey I have just recently moved to a new role as a Sr. Pastor. Not real sure what that means really, but God is moving and I will follow the wave as it goes.

Religion is so PRUDE…

Over the last several months I have been watching as a Freshman in college gets his chance at making it big off a great idea.  South Butt is quickly gaining recognition as North Face has begun a lawsuit trying to shut them down because of logo infringements.  While I do own a South Butt t-shirt and think that it was a great idea I found the following article rather frustrating as a Christian.  While I will respect the decisions of leadership at the school I do not understand why we get so worked up over somehting that is not leading to changing the life of another individual.  It is just proving that we are full of rules and want to control everyone else’s world.

St. Louis Catholic school bans South Butt clothing

1/19/2010 1:14 p.m.

KSDK—A Catholic school in St. Louis has banned South Butt clothing, calling it “inappropriate at school.”

The school issued a letter to parents late last week on behalf of the school’s principal, Gerry Kettenbach, PhD.

Here is part of the letter sent home to parents: “Throughout the year students have gotten looser in their adherence to the school uniform code. We’re seeing more boys with long hair and girls in short skirts-not to mention the sloppiness of multiple colors of sweatshirts. Please review the expectations on pp. 94-95 of the Buzz Book and help your child(ren) make appropriate clothing choices. We are reviewing the uniform code for adjustments for next year, but, in the meantime, everyone is expected to meet the expectations set forth in the current code. Today we noted a couple of students wearing attire with a logo the opposite of North Face. This is inappropriate at school”

The school also issued this statement Tuesday afternoon: “Mary Queen of Peace Parish School is an Archdiocesan Catholic elementary school that finds its center in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. As a faith community, our mission is to create an environment that encourages each student’s spiritual, moral and academic growth with a commitment to stewardship. Students are expected to dress and present an appearance consistent with standards of good taste and appropriate for school and school events. It is inappropriate for students to wear clothing that would distract from the learning that takes place in our school.”

South Butt attorney Albert Watkins offered this response to the school’s actions: “The South Butt applauds Dr. Kettenbach and The Mary Queen of Peace Parish School for recognizing the difference between a face and a butt and certainly respects the decision of the learned Principal to assert The South Butt apparel inappropriate,” said Albert S. Watkins, legal counsel for the St. Louis based parody apparel company. “The South Butt only wishes North Face would have consulted with Dr. Kettenbach prior to initiating its lawsuit against The South Butt,” concluded Watkins.”

North Face has sued The South Butt in federal court alleging trademark infringement and wants the company to stop making and selling its products with the South Butt logo.
