I am on a journey to see how God will use me in this messy thing called the "Church." While on that journey I have just recently moved to a new role as a Sr. Pastor. Not real sure what that means really, but God is moving and I will follow the wave as it goes.

When to submit to leadership

feature photo

After more than a year of being without, we have just recently hired a new senior leader.  The excitement is high and everyone is looking to the future to see where we are headed and what the church will look like in a couple of years.  Outside the church and even a little inside the church the question that keeps coming up for me is, “What if you don’t agree with the direction he wants to go?” I can only imagine that this is a question that many of us have struggled with in the past or will face in the future.

As an individual I know that I have strong emotions and feelings that are tied to the ministry that I oversee and lead.  I could easily become one who fights for all that he has at whatever cost it is to the church and the new senior leader.  The programs and ministry stories that I could tell would make what we are doing look like a Cinderella story.  However, is that the right approach as we are looking at some new methods of ministry?  I beg to say that it is not the right appraoch and I just like you have to find some way to submit to the leadership that is around me.  Here are a few suggestions to help you and I as we move through these transistions.

1.  Remember the big picture
2.  It’s not all about me
3.  God has put him here for reason
4.  Share you passion
5.  Follow the leader

If we can remember these five things as we go through transisitions I believe we will be able to look at life from the other side and know that we submitted to the leadership and got out of God’s way.  If you can not accomplish #5 (follow the leader).  Then you should leave as quietly as possible and trust God to move you from that point.
