Camp is here
I am finally relaxing now that we are into day two. At this point everything should run fairly smooth other than we have had over 5 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Thankfully it has been pretty clear during free time.
If you have ever had the chance to be in charge of a week of camp you know that it can be very challenging. I find that most weeks of camp are either going to be really good or they will fail within the first day. It is key to make sure that you are prepared when walking into camp and that everything is ready to roll. If you have to spend all of your time at camp chasing down people and issues then you will not enjoy the very reason that you came to camp. Here is a short list of some things to consider as you prepare to lead a week.
1. Plan ahead – if you can get things done in advance then you will have a better week. It is simply a leadership fact when you take the time to plan ahead you can do more stuff.
2. Recruit enough leaders – I generally have one adult per 2 or 3 campers. While this may seem like overload each adult is here to focus on one thing. This makes there time much more enjoyable.
3. Program the week – too often programming is something that we no longer want to do in Student Ministry. However, if you want a great week plan for it and make it happen.
4. Worship time is crucial – this is the most important time and requires the most attention. If you can create an incredible worship experience then you will be able to make up for things like he weather.
These are just four simple things to focus on when you are planning for a week of camp. What other things would you add to the list?
