Easter is it Personal or Professional

As a Student Minister for the last 15 years I have often struggled around holidays with my immediate family. Easter had become something that I celebrated form a professional level and had little experience around on a personal level. The routine went something like this for several years: Go to bed after putting baskets together and filling eggs, wake up head to church long before my family was up and moving, they would find there eggs, enjoy their baskets and I would be no where around. I just hated this and my wife hated it even more.
I am not being shallow; I understand that Easter is really about the resurrection of Jesus from a cross and that baskets and eggs have little value on from spiritual perspective. However, I remember those days as a child and loved waking up hunting for eggs, going through the basket of junk and spending time with the family and then heading off to church together for a day of Easter festivities. I was missing this with my family and it was getting very frustrating.
Until one day when my wife had finally had enough and we started discussing Easter. It was during this conversation that we decided to move Easter for our family to the Saturday before Easter Sunday. It has been an incredible day with my boys and family every since then.
What do you do help keep Easter a personal experience over something that you miss because you are a professional minister?
