I am on a journey to see how God will use me in this messy thing called the "Church." While on that journey I have just recently moved to a new role as a Sr. Pastor. Not real sure what that means really, but God is moving and I will follow the wave as it goes.

Communicating for a Change

There are a few books that one needs to re-read every couple of years.  When it comes to communicating and communicating-for-a-changeteaching on a regular basis on of those books from my library is, Communicating for a Change by Andy Stanley.  It is a great reminder of what one should be doing in preparing for a message.  Specifically related to the idea of truth, message being taught and everything else supporting it.  Here are the 7 main processes that are referred to in this book:

  1. Determine the Goal
  2. Pick a Point
  3. Create a Map
  4. Internalize the Message
  5. Engage your Audience
  6. Find your Voice
  7. Start all Over

If you are communicating on a regular basis to any size crowd, this is a good read.  Just remember you are not Andy Stanley and this book serves as a method in a large process.  We will not all speak like Andy Stanley and in the end if you do not find your method then it is likely your audience will never connect with your message.

I read this a couple of years ago, and it changed the way I think about preaching and teaching. Very good stuff.
