I am on a journey to see how God will use me in this messy thing called the "Church." While on that journey I have just recently moved to a new role as a Sr. Pastor. Not real sure what that means really, but God is moving and I will follow the wave as it goes.

christian hypocrisy

Christian hypocrisy is easily found when we as Christians focus on the impressions of other Christians.  It is when we look at our lives and fear the judgment of those who are following Christ that we let hypocrisy set in.

11But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party. 13And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. 14But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?” Galatians 2:11 – 14

When we spend time with those who do not know Christ and we engage in what is customary for them we are opening the door for ministry to happen.  However, it is when other Christians step into the place where we are ministering and start judging those who are reaching out that we have the beginning of hypocrisy.  We fear what those in our community of believers will think of us so we strive to step out of the environments that we are in so that they will not think less of us.  In the end we sacrifice Christ desires for those who need the Gospel message to save our reputations.

I would have to say that in light of this passage we must stay strong to the teachings of scripture but at the same time we must let the Gospel dictate our actions.  Not the fear of those who are already followers with a heavy heart of judgement.  Let them judge as you seek to reach and save the lost.
