Ministry:
Beaver, OK – I serve as the youth minister there for only about nine months. This was our first ministry out of college and it was the worst situation that I have ever served in. While it was bad on so many levels it taught me a lot about leadership and maintaining your integrity.
Cary, NC – This was by far the most beautiful place that I have lived. It was a great church and experience in youth ministry. However, we decided to have a child and when that happened we realized that we needed to live closer to home if we wanted our son to know his grandparents. Ministry wise I learned the importance of relationships and how to develop a ministry.
Belleville, IL – I guess this ministry was really more of a stale mate. It went well and the ministry grew a ton. While doing ministry here there were two lessons that came out of this experience. First, I learned the importance of communicating what we are doing and why. The second lesson, if the youth minister and the senior minister do not see things the same way it is the job of the youth minister to leave and keep peace.
Danville, IL – This was one of my favorite ministries. It was here that I first created a full blown student ministry and saw students growing in incredible ways. It was also here that I honed my gifts in programming and creating environments that led students closer to God.
St. Charles, MO – This is where I am currently serving and simply am having the time of my life. God has taught me a lot here as well and I look forward to many more years here serving and “connecting students to Christ for a lifetime.”
Education:
I am currently a Master of Arts in Ministry candidate with a concentration in Youth Ministry. I am enrolled at Indiana Wesleyan University and really enjoy the program. If you are interested in stretching yourself and taking your education to the next level I would encourage you to give this a chance. Check it out and you will see how beneficial it can be for you.
I also took grad classes from Carolina University of Theology. I finished all the class work and then bailed out of the thesis and decided to wait and get a fully accredited degree. It was great for me at the time and really kept me in the mentality of being a learner for life.
I got my undergrad degree from St. Louis Christian College in 1994. I graduated with a B.S. in Christian Education. While in school I also took all of the youth ministry classes and preaching classes. Undergrad truly did prepare me for ministry and taught me a lot that would have brought major problems had I not got it in school. I am thankful for my undergrad.
Goals:
Outside of the ministry stuff that I have going on there are a few goals that I want to make happen.
1. Start writing some articles
2. Do more leadership training
3. Create some ideas for a book
4. Get another Master’s degree
5. Use my experience to help others
Thanks for taking an interest in my blog and I pray that it is a benefit to you and your ministry.
